Deployed to fight California’s wildfires

Paul Mowrey, a member at Messiah, is currently near Redding, California, fighting forest fires for the next several weeks.  Sue, Paul’s wife, says: “It is based on volunteers, but comes with a 2 hour notice of departure and carries a 20 day commitment.  He left last Tuesday.  We have been very blessed in that he is in an area that has cell phone and Internet access.  Most of the time, the teams leave and have no cell phone or way to communicate for the entire time.  (The previous group from NC arrived in Oregon and immediately “spiked out”  meaning they hiked their 60 lbs. of gear to the fire and camp at the fire night and day instead of at a base camp–no cell phones to call home and let family know.)  His 20 man crew is responsible for digging fire lines, repairing trails, and other manual labor at the fire.”

We’re glad that Paul has been reported as safe. Keep pray for Paul and his family here at home, as he serves and we await his safe return.
