New Members at Messiah

In the past months quite a few people have joined Messiah’s congregation. If any of these are still new to you, make a point of getting to know them.

Connie Asero  Connie has been in Wilmington for 7 years, coming to the area for the beach and fishing. She grew up in Germany and Taiwan. She never lived in the US until she was 18. At Messiah she is looking forward to being part of a community to strengthen her in Christian living.

The Berhalters  Katy and Margaret Berhalter, a mother-and-daughter household have been in the area for only a few months. They came for the weather, the beach and to be near family. Margaret is a patient service advocate and Katy is retired. Both are looking forward to continuing to grow in their faith at Messiah.

The Borstads   Greg and Stacy Borstad, daughters, Alexa and Taylor, and son Jon, have been in the Wilmington area a little over a year. Greg is a physician and they came to the area for his job at Carolina Arthritis. At Messiah Greg looks forward to more of Pastor Timothy’s sermons.

The Connollys Carol and Chris came to the area a little over 2 years ago to be near their daughter and her family. They currently live in Wallace. Chris is a retired banking executive and Carol is a retired teacher. Chris has worked in or traveled to 47 of the 50 states. At Messiah they are looking forward to belonging to a community of Christian-minded individuals and families.

The Elliotts  Mark and Wendy Elliott have been in the area around 9 years, Mark works for GE. Wendy worked in design and illustration but is starting a new season in her live in which she challenges herself to write and illustrate a children’s book. Wendy loves to decorate her home and move furniture around. She also enjoys flowers, galleries and great food. Since coming to NC, they have taken up hiking. Mark was in the Navy where he served aboard a deep submersible submarine. Wendy is looking forward to Pastor Timothy’s sermons and using her abilities to serve. Mark looks forward to growing in his faith and becoming better at sharing it in new relationships.

The Foels Both Dawn and Mel Foels grew up Toledo, Ohio. They have been in the Wilmington area 11 years, coming here when they retired to be near family. Mel is a retired football coach and pro scout and assistant professor in Health Education. Dawn is a retired teacher. Mel enjoys playing around in the garden; Dawn loves to sing.  At Messiah Mel is looking forward to a closer walk with Jesus and getting to know individuals who believe the teachings of LCMS. Dawn is looking forward to a new church family and a synod that shares her convictions.

Sandy Henderson  Sandy is a currently care giver for Home Instead Senior Care. She grew up in Colorado and has lived in this area for 10 years. She chose the area when friends were moving here. She has a daughter, Mary Beth, and a grandson Stephen. She looks forward to meeting new people and participating in projects.

The Hollembeaks Richard Hollembeak is “mostly retired.” He has been living in the area for 62 years. He runs to fires, not away from them. Karen, also retired, has also been in the area for a long time, moving here after college graduation.

The Kelwaskis Mark, Jessica, Edward, Oscar and Alice came to the area recently for Mark’s job as Director of
Commercial Development at Alcami. Jessica is a former math teacher and currently a stay-at-home mom. Mark has been wrestling since he was 5 years old and has been wrestling or coaching wrestling for 32 years. At Messiah Jessica looks forward to serving and worshiping God. Mark is looking forward to watching his children grow up with Christ.

The Marcis family

Timothy and Audrey Marcis moved to the area less than a year ago. Both are retired.

The Mckenzies Keith and Clare McKenzie both grew up in Rowan County and moved to the Wilmington area around a year ago. Both are retired. Keith was a golf course superintendent and Clare was a kindergarten and elementary teacher. They came to Wilmington because they like it here and to be near their daughter and her family. Keith likes fishing and golf and spending time with his family. Clare had a stroke a couple of years ago but is now walking, talking, driving, typing, reading and writing. At Messiah Keith is looking for a place to refuel his spiritual tank. Clare is looking for a Christian “family” with whom to share study of the Word.

Ethel Milewski Ethel grew up in New York City. She and her husband, John, came to the Wilmington area a few years ago to be near family. She loves flowers and music. She married her high school sweetheart. At Messiah she looks forward to good sermons and good friendships.

Lynn O’Connell Some of you may remember Lynn O’Connell from her time here at Messiah as Music Director. She has been a professional opera singer and sang on Broadway. She now teaches at Cape Fear Academy. Lynn has been in the Wilmington area for 27 years, arriving in a live-aboard sailboat. She lives with her husband, Robbie Driver. At Messiah she looks forward to having a peaceful, happy church family to worship with.

The Papach family Matt Papach has been living in the Wilmington area for 8 years. He is Lean Project Lead at NHRMC. In college he played basketball. He completed his master’s degree in December. Amanda came to the area 5 years ago to join Matt. She is Marketing Directory at SpendMend. She also played basketball in college, as well as volleyball. She currently coaches basketball and took her team to back-to-back nationals. She and Matt are looking forward to being involved in a Christian community and raising their family around people with the same values and faith.

The Snyders Angie, Jeff and Xavier moved to the area in April, 2018. Because they love the area and for Jeff’s job as co-manager of 84 Lumber. Angie is a nurse at Novant Health in Leland. They are Vikings fans and they love to travel and love to eat at new places. At Messiah they are looking forward to getting more involved in the community.
